Richard Kapp, born 1976, is a singer/songwriter living in the city of Vienna, Austria. From an early age he has been involved in the creation of music, first came the piano, then came the drums. A prolific musician in his native city he has been involved in many different musical projects as a keyboardist, drummer and composer.
All the while he has been honing and refining his songwriting skills. Richard Kapp uses his anarchic pop sensibilities to craft unusual and quirky indie pop tunes. Another brand are his clever, witty and sardonic lyrics with a wink. But it is his undying love for melody and surprising harmonies that makes the aural senses tingle.
He constantly attracts other musicians because of his tight arrangements and ear for a damn fine song. A songwriter gathering momentum he has worked with highly respected indie-musicians like Back Bone Shiver, Peter Kearns, Gis Johannsson and Woodstock Taylor for his debut album "A Tie For Free".
Now, here is Richard's latest work - an EP called "Short Songs" which is an expression of different moods and thoughts. Richard composed each song on one single day so it is an authentic reflection of what he thought and felt on that very day.
Richard on "Short Songs": I wanted everything to be as real and authentic as possible even if it is not perfect. My debut album "A Tie For Free" was more bombastic and rich of arrangements, but then I thought that although I love bombastic arrangements that it is all about the melody and a good song should also work without big things going on. So, I hope that one can recognize the intimate moments that created the songs on "Short Songs"
Richard's music has been compared with The Divine Comedy, Scott Walker, Burt Bacharach, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, 10cc, The Beatles and ELO. His songs have been played on several international indie radiostations. One of them, a scotish radiostation "Radio Six International" also nominated him for the "Record Of The Year" award.
