I originally conceived Blown as an academic presentation of each bagpipe I play and the traditional music you would hear from them. About half way through the project I felt that an important part of the picture was missing. In my own playing I create music by listening to the bagpipe and allowing it to direct the music as much as I do. In striving to capture just the classical presentation of the pipes I was leaving out the part of them I enjoyed the most – the interplay of ideas between the player and the instrument. Blown then is the marriage of established foundations and the new ideas that can be played upon them.

Enjoyed each track. The blending of various pipes and drums made the music very rich when played through extended range speakers. I was Merlin at the CA Ren Faire last year (2007).

Richard Kean's music is elegant. The complex and impressive bagpipe music, supported by drumming, is crisp and commanding. Highly recommended.
