Richard is in his final year at Clare College, Cambridge reading music, studying with Ian Buckle; other teachers have included Peter Donohoe and Yonty Soloman. Richard is also an instrumental award holder for chamber music at the university. In October 2006, Richard took first prize in the seventh British Contemporary Piano Competition and also won the Sonic Arts Network Prize. He has since performed throughout the country, Including the Guilford international music festival. Richard has also commissioned new music for solo piano.

Richard made his first CD with UHRecordings in 2007. Most recently, Richard took the first prize in the national finals of the Lions International Europa Forum piano competition, and will go on to represent Britain in the European finals held in Bucharest later this year.
