The Whisper EP will give you a taste of why many are calling Richie Wirz one of the best new artists in music today!
Richie Wirz (www.richiewirz.com), a Los Angeles singer/guitarist, hails originally from Washington D.C. where he led the popular three-piece band “fetiSh”. His solo work has a raw acoustic-rock sound that still has the edginess of fetiSh with more focus on vocal harmonies and acoustic guitar.
“On the Whisper EP, Richie’s soulful baritone-to-tenor voice is accompanied by incredibly thoughtful instrumental arrangements with the sole purpose of taking the listener to a place where emotions reign.” His songs are thoughtful and grounded, but always with hope. His extremely large vocal range allows him to record intense harmonies to compliment the lead voice.
“The song 'Whisper' is a ‘tour de force’ that will be in people’s minds and playlists for years to come.” According to Richie, “this song was written about the power and restraint of a whisper, which is often your only option.” To convey this emotion, he has developed a new “hushed” vocal style that is both passionate and restrained. The song starts with vocals counterpointing with piano and guitar, and ultimately releases to a beautiful chorus of voices and instruments.
“My Angel” is an audience favorite that is finally in studio form. “My Angel is an amazing song that dances on the line between country, rock, pop, and alternative music styles; without giving in to one style completely.” The acoustic guitars, mandolin, and harmonies provide an Americana inspired background while Wirz sings about the collapse and rebuild of a relationship that will never end. Richie has been playing this song to audiences for years with the perpetual request to make a recording. Well, here it is… enjoy!
Hartford Cars is an intense portrayal of Richie’s baritone voice. “It is about time a song like Hartford Cars came out. This song has about as much passion as a voice and guitar can have without resorting to violence!” According to Wirz, Hartford Cars is a poem incarnate that was written and recorded in a single studio session. The words came from fragments of a poem he had written years before and was never intended to be part of a song. In his words, “This is a great way to write songs and this one just came in a single creative rush; I’m very glad I was in the studio at the time and could record it!”
