Invoking sounds and associations from 60's rock and pop, layered in with threads of psychedelic, modern and indie pop, Rick Bain has hit the nail on the head, taken the most direct path to the center with his super-charged, highly compatible ingredients, weaving song after song of lasting poprock with lingering afterglow. There's a distinctive sense of "no messing around" in this album- he shoots from the hip, never missing the mark, landing fair and square on a well-grounded- though far from predictable- sonic platform. From start to finish, this album dishes out track after track of convincing, committed songs.

As one of many music fans taken aback by Crooked Autumn Sun I eagerly anticipated the release of Virtual Heavy Pet and must say that it met or exceeded my every expectation. The album's poppy lyrics, warm melodies, and searing guitar licks are sure to please fans new and old. This is music for music lovers, and while certain parts have a retro charm remniscent of bands such as the Beach Boys, the Velvet Underground, the Dandy Worhols and others, Rick Bain also incorporates decidedly innovative elements and a distinct indie-rock charm. This is a powerful album that transcends genre. Alternating between melodic ballads and absolute rockouts, it's sure to appeal to music fans of all walks of life.
