CD Title: Rick Berlin LIVE @ Jacques
Berlin's admixture of heartfelt sincerity, dark humor, despair &
playful, lusty freakishness has made it onto CD. This is, in no way, a
generic 'live' version of previously recorded material. Jacques, in no
way, resembles the generic venue w/ canned, paper-the-house applause.
Jacques is the club where Rick has performed every Monday night for 4
years + where he's introduced many new artists/bands; the Monday night
clubhouse to many of his best friends & collaborators. This vibe is an
inherent part of the record. Dragqueens screech & whine, the phone
rings, Brubaker beer bottles clink behind the bar, 8 balls thunk into
the guts of the well-worn pool table, the stench & surprise as the
'ladies' room' door creaks open, the backstage wig collection, the
shifting, wedding cake decor & smoke-filled, shot-glassed tables all
find a home here as living, breathing wallpaper within Berlin's song
book.
