Album Notes

“This Rick Crane and Bob Himmelberger duo recording is extra special. I was engaged from beginning to end with the musicality of both of these fine creative musicians. Multiple listening is definitely in order. BRAVO GENTLEMEN!”
RUFUS REID, Bassist

“Jazz is communication, having musical conversations, finishing each other’s sentences and leaving thoughtful pauses. Many times the better we know the other person and the subject matter, the deeper the conversation becomes. Their subject matter is diverse and challenging and the interplay at times astounding. This truly is a conversation worth over-hearing.”

MICHAEL MOORE, Bassist

“Rick Crane and Bob Himmelberger play perfect together, as one. The music speaks for itself. A fine choice of some the greatest jazz classics with swinging, sensitive, original interpretations by both Bob and Rick, both virtuosos on their instruments. This is one of the finest duos I’ve ever heard. If you don’t enjoy this beautiful music, you don’t like music. Great job Rick and Bob”

RICHIE COLE, Saxophonist

Through out the duration of my jazz career, as a bassist, I have welcomed the challenge of playing many different arrangements of a particular song. One night I may play a Gershwin or Elington tune in a trio format, and the next night the same tune arranged for a twenty piece big band. For me the most rewarding and fulfilling playing situation is in a duo. It allows me more melodic, harmonic, and mostly rhythmic freedom than other playing formats. I especially enjoy a piano and bass duo when I’m with a great pianist playing on a fine instrument.
This CD offers a variety of standards and jazz classics. We have been playing these tunes together for decades and felt that it was time to document our interpretations of these great compositions. It was very enjoyable to take on this project with Bob. It felt like we had been rehearsing for a lifetime and it was well worth it. We hope you agree! RICK CRANE
