Album Notes

Have you ever had an album that you put in when nothing else sounds good? That CD for driving, when you've got a long road and time to burn? A CD to put in the player in the morning, and listen to while making breakfast?

From the passion and feeling of "Go For Better Love", "Falling Into You", and "Hardly So", to the dark optimism of "Osokin", and on to the pragmatic reality of running away in "Ride", this disc spans a vast array of emotions and feelings.

Insightful !
author: Laura T Lynch of Kweevak.com
Rick Cusick's lyrics are insightful and flow well with his mostly up-tempo arrangements. Rick's songs have a positive feel even when the narrative is about struggles. Cusick's music is guitar based combined with subtle rhythms and other instruments including percussion, piano and the violin. Rick is a soulful vocalist. He combines the best of acoustic, pop and rock into East his eleven track CD, which is also his third independent release. 'Light I Light' is the animated opening track enhanced by piano parts and Rick's spirited vocals. 'East' has a more reflective tone with deep bass lines, pattering drums and soft guitars layered over colorful, visual lyrics. 'Ride' features varied vocal inflections and whistling melding with a funky bass and drum duel that is quite catchy. Rick Cusick is an impressive artist crafting serious yet uplifting songs!

Too much hook for one CD! Great voice, great songs!

Haven't been able to take it out of my CD player since I got it! The lyrics are catchy and yet thoughtful, and the melodies for the songs stay with you. I'd compare him to a mix of David Gray with the musicianship reminiscent of early Dave Matthews. And his voice ... all I can say is you have to hear it. "East" is a solid album packed with great songs, and I definitely hope to see it propel Rick to the status he's earned. Defintely recommend it.

Compelling music, crafted with style and sincerety
author: Simon Tiller
A great album, Rick Cusick is definitely hitting his stride with East. Delivered with his trademark gravelly tenor with Suzanne Vega-style lyrics, Cusick sings of love and longing without any maudlin sentimentality. Light I Light, Go for Better Love and Ride are the highlights. East has put Rick Cusick on the cutting edge of a mainstream recording career. Buy this album and get to know him before he becomes a superstar!

Relaxing, charming and just so damned catchy!!!

Simply put, this is a great album. Rarely do I listen to a CD and like every song, but this CD is the exception. From beginning to end, each song grabs you right away and before you know it you're bobbing your head and singing along. Smart lyrics, sweet grooves, and catchy pop melodies puts this guy right into the stratosphere with Dave Matthews, John Mayer and Jack Johnson. Superbly produced and radio friendly, this is the PERFECT record to drive to. I know because I've been driving to it all week. :-) Can't wait for the next one!
