Rick Overton is a native of New York who currently resides in Tokyo, Japan.
He is a graduate of both Berklee College of Music in Boston and Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia.
He has performed with and/or been associated with Teo Macero, Branford Marsalis, The Temptations, Four Tops, The Empire Brass Quintet, Donald Harrison, Cyrus Chestnut, Mark Whitfield, Mark Marino, Seleno Clark and Craig Boyd among many others.
He has performed in North America, the Carribean and Asia in clubs, events, concert halls and cruise ships.
He is currently an assistant professor of trumpet and Jazz improvisation at Tokyo College of Music and is credited as the first to develop an improvisation course at a music college in Japan.
He currently is consulting on the development of a course in Ecuador where one of his former students is working.
He spans many genres including studio work for various recording projects in Japan.
Urbanesque features the Rick Overton Unit with Rick Overton on trumpet and flugelhorn, Bruce Stark on piano, Shinobu Sato on bass and the world renowned drummer, Tommy Campbell.

Created in the style of cool jazz from the 50's like that of Miles Davis, Urbnaesque offers the listener a story of life in a city. Highly musical improvisation that is emotional and artistic. This is the perfect CD to put on at night with a cold. The first track reminds me of driving through the desert on a hot summer's night, not quite sure what you're up to, or where you're going.
