Now you can hear the audio version of the zine Wired Magazine called "Singularly charming and witty" and Portland's Willamette Week named one of the "Best Zines for Inducing Bafflement and Awe." It's the Radio Journal of Ride Theory, recorded live on KPFA's long-running free form radio show "Over The Edge." Host Crosley Bendix welcomes special guest Ignatz Topo in a spoken word and audio collage show about Disneyland, roller coasters, spookhouses, and what have you.
But that's not all! Stick around and you might learn something, as Iggy fields calls from smart, curious, sleepy and sometimes stoned listeners. Michael Eisner, head of the Disney company, calls in to bellyache and imply that Iggy is an alien. Even the frozen head of former Disney head Walt Disney gets into the act by coughing a lot and swearing a little. All this plus amusement park and roller coaster audio collages by Don Joyce of Negativland.

REVIEWS OF THE ZINE:
Willamette Week, July 24, 2000
"JORT... continues its inquiry into the metaphysics of amusement park rides (other forms of motion are covered too, but mostly amusement park rides) with its most recent issue. Tracing the theme "Bad Ideas," Dan Howland's 'zine chronicles a number of half-baked notions in automated transport and amusement, and also savages the Disney empire. Cool, eh?"
Wired Magazine, November 1996:
"Singularly charming and witty, JoRT uncovers the secrets of Disney's Haunted Mansion, rates the effectiveness of cheesy VR rides, and tells the true story of working as a 'vomit spotter' at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. The zine's first issue features the niftiest piece of avant-pop that any budding ride theorist could desire: 'An Iconographic Palimpsest of the Magic Kingdom.' This stylized map illustrates those Disneyland attractions and traditions that have been removed or altered over the years. A cute little spaceman, for example, marks the former location of "Flying Saucers: Bumper Cars in Giant Air Hockey Rink," which was closed due to mechanical failures."
(NEWS UPDATE: Back Issues of the zine have been compiled into a book -- see www.lulu.com/ridetheory for details!)

This CD is alot like the humorous golden days of Negativland's Over the Edge radio show (84-90), complete w/ Crowsley Bendix - who co-hosts this program. The only thing this is missing is the Weather Man.
Interesting live talk about Disney Land &
Michael Isner (spelling ?). Some great collage stuff here as well. I can't suggest this one enough.
Good good stuff.

Good hello to Mr Howland for producing something so fabulous and nutty, informative and smart. Plus thanks to CD Baby for their excellent service. You know you want it.
