Be one of the first Western Swing collectors to own this premier CD of The Rinear Trio.
Never before released to the public, this CD is a compilation
of Western Swing and some pop tunes of the day, such as
Mona Lisa, Dream and Jealous. The trio, Jack, Ronnie and Glen
Evans Rinear played a jazzy and upbeat western swing for live audiences in the bars and lounges of the Central and San Juaquin Valleys of California from 1954-1971.
The playful and improvisational fiddle playing of Glen Rinear
is what gives the trio much of its unique style, while the close
and soothing harmonies of their blended voices are refreshingly pure and sweet, unadulterated by the slick commercialism of much of today's offerings.
Jack Rinear, the lead vocalist, sings simple songs straight
from the heart. Whether it's "Who's Sorry Now", "I Care No More" or "Chattanooga Shoeshine Boy." The starred songs
on this CD are his original tunes, including "I Reckon I'm a Texan," which has become a classic in this genre.
Glen sings the tenor vocals on "Mona Lisa," and"Dream,"
by turns longingly and playful just as he plays the fiddle. The fiddle, in fact, was his voice, the one that expressed what he couldn't say in words.
"Cocaine Blues," is sung according to the original lyrics by
Johnny Cash, which he has amended over the decades. It is
my favorite.
Of the 30 cuts, five are fiddle tunes and show off Glen's
fast, playful, jazzy interpretations of these classic songs. All songs were originally recorded by Berman Rinear on both reel to reel and cassette from live venues, although a long set was recorded in a trailer in Lompoc, CA for a demo.
Liner notes and photo included in accompanying booklet.
I know you will enjoy this wonderful piece of California Vintage
Western Swing as much as I do. My uncle Jack is 85 now and
lives in Porterville, CA.
