Classically trained and experienced in jazz, big band and piano solo work, Gary plays the American Songbook with reverence. Piano was his companion through the Navy, college and law school. Along with his law practice he devotes his time to music and travel. Perhaps because of his diversified experience, Gary employs tone-color with lush harmonies and subtle rhythm. A fan recently said that "his expressive piano seems to sing the lyrics.”
On his CD "Dance with Someone You Love" Gary plays "The Very Thought of You", "Someone to Watch Over Me", "Isn't it Romantic", "It's Easy to Remember", "If I Had You", "I Can't Get Started", "Everything Happens to Me", "Autumn in New York" and "The Nearness of You" in subtle swing with touches of impressionism. He plays "Georgia on My Mind" with appropriate blues licks, and he plays "Ain't Misbehavin" in Harlem stride.
As always, Gary plays each tune in a manner consistent with its history.
