Album Notes

Ringleader is a DC area based 4 piece rock band. With a strong focus on songwriting and an engaging live show, Ringleader is making new fans with every performance. Ringleader's music is a combination of the indie rock sound of PJ Harvey and Liz Phair with the pop sensibilities of No Doubt and Garbage.

Formed in 2003 by Lena Esposito and Chris Brownelle, Ringleader spent it's first two years focusing mainly on writing and recording original material. Lena had previously been playing solo and had recently recorded her self-titled cd with Grammy-nominated producer Bob Dawson. Chris had previously been a member of DC area band Smartbomb, recording and playing the mid-atlantic region for several years. In the fall of 2004, Ringleader released it's debut 4-song ep and follow up ep "No Slide Guitar" in 2005. The band enjoyed many positive reviews of these releases and began playing area shows at such venues as IOTA Club and Cafe, Jammin' Java, and TT Reynolds In 2006 bassist Dean Perry joined the band and has been contributing to the writing and recording ever since. Dean grew up in Florida where he gained his chops playing in various projects at such area clubs as Hard Rock Orlando and Wall Street Plaza.

Ringleader then recorded a three song cd single in 2007 with producer Jim Ebert (Meredith Brooks, Marvelous 3). In 2008, Ringleader solidified it's lineup with the addition of drummer Eddie Anzueto. Eddie has played in numerous recording and live projects most notably Fairfax based Modern Yesterday, a band that achieved regional success after being signed to MCI's Jireh records

Ringleader is busy writing and will be actively booking shows in the coming months. They also plan a new recording project in November reuniting with noted producer Jim Ebert.

No, it’s Not the Early 90’s Again, It’s Ringleader

Fairfax Station, VA’s Ringleader is one of two types of band, either they are on the cutting edge of some type of pop revival or they are a band that forgot what year it is. In case you’re wondering, Ringleader is the first type of band. The band itself was a progression of sorts, starting out with just frontwoman Lena Esposito and Chris Brownelle as a solo project in 2003. It then went on to bigger and better things so to speak with the addition of bassist Dean Perry in 2006 and finally drummer Sean Saley. It didn’t take long for the band to craft their penultimate emotional pop, and drop their latest release, ‘What He Says.’ Granted it is only three songs long and referred to in some cases as a CD single, it gets the point across in spectacular fashion. The title track eases the listener into the world of Ringleader, as the bands’ obviously firm grasp on beautiful pop sensibilities is quickly showcased through Esposito’s exceptional vocal aesthetic. Her ability to harmonize creates memorable hooks that quickly turn into sing-a-longs. ‘What He Says’ is a classic pop love song that is hard to shake after listening. ‘Play Pretend’ uses ska-infused rock and lofty choruses to further demonstrate the bands’ versatility and finally ‘Jaywalker’ rounds things out nicely with surprising, unexpected heavy guitars. Ringleader isn’t always timid and shy as in their pop tracks. They can rock too. Think mid-80’s and early 90’s pop, think Lilith Fair, think a pop rock band that’s as good as anyone you currently listen to (if not better). The only problem is you haven’t heard about Ringleader yet. Oh wait, yes you have. Now enjoy. For fans of… No Doubt, Blondie, the Go-Go’s, Paramore, The Cars

This is a nice little EP of really cool, fun pop music.  There's an air of a little Brit Pop here.  There's also a teensy bit of a 80s throwback sound.  This is a good thing for me. ......The songs are very catchy.  They really stayed with me.  They play around with rhythms and tempos and it makes a really nice record
