Album Notes

RIPLEY has a punchy power pop sound that devoted NYC village audiences have dubbed "crunchy slut pop from another planet." Alice Ripley (vocals/guitars/songwriter) recently formed RIPLEY after working for a decade on Broadway (she was nominated for a Tony Award for her portrayal of Violet Hilton in the cult classic Side Show - Sony Classical). Long time pro Drummer Shannon Ford (Danny Gatton, Paul Simon)and literary-agent-by-day-keyboardist-by-night Christopher Schelling make up the other two members of RIPLEY, whose self-produced, self-titled EP features five tracks of twisty ear candy. QUEEN meets vintage BLONDIE. The layers of soaring female vocals, siren-like keys and crunchy guitars give RIPLEY a catchy retro-wave sound with a decidedly 21st century ring. AVAILABLE TO CD BABY VISITORS A FULL MONTH BEFORE THE OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE, WHICH IS SEPTEMBER 21, 2004

REVIEWS

Part diva, part chanteuse and part performance artist.

The opening track “Romeo” is basically a straight forward although beguiling pop song, while “Counting sheep is a blend of quirkiness and psychedelia. “Humiliating Circumstances” is a bit of an understated gem that shows just how beautiful a voice she has when the instrumentation and ‘theatrics’ are reduced to the minimum, and there is nowhere left to hide. It’s the sort of song where you either stand or fall on your voice alone – and Ms Ripley is still on her feet.

Alice can do it all! Her punk feel comes through loud and strong. Once again I'm sold!!! Broadway, rock, punk listners must add this to their collection.

LOVING IT!!

Who knew Alice had it in her?! This CD is a great departure from the sound Alice established on "Everything's Fine" and the lyrics show a maturity that was not expected. Buy this CD and play it loud!

I WANT MORE!
author: Shmatty
I am a huge fan of Alice and her work on Broadway and her previous album Everything's Fine. With this kick-ass band, she is back in full force. This album can rock the pants off any Britney fan. It packs all the fun, and is full of surprises. It's great to hear a rock/pop/punk singer that doesn't sound like she is ruining her voice on every line too. Give Ripley a spin if you want something new, fun, and original. All I can say is, "Five songs? I WANT MORE!!!!"
