Rising Sun Reggae Band was founded and established by Delroy Headley, the current bandleader and manager, and Pierre Belony in 1993. They had a vision to put together a group of musicians that could deliver Reggae music to people from all over the world while entertaining and having fun.
The band consists of seven musicians and a sound engineer: A Drummer, Bass player/vocalist, Guitar player, two Keyboard players, a Lead vocalists and a background vocalist. Rising Sun Band has performed locally at venues such as Seacrets, in Ocean City, The Settings Supper Club, Crossroads Night club, Chevy Chase Country Club, Takoma Station, Bukon Café, BET on Jazz, Zanzibar on the Waterfront, Cheeseburger in Paradise, Pennsylvania State University, George Washington University, Uncle Sam's and Basin Street Lounge. The group also Headlined in South Carolina, at the James Island County Park Reggae Festival and the Moja arts Festival Reggae Block Dance and in Knoxville Tennessee, for the Labor Day Weekend Jam at Michael's. They opened for the Wailers at the Bottle & Cork in Dewey Beach, Delaware.
Rising Sun Reggae Band released their first original CD entitled "Serious" in the fall of 2002. The CD was produced by Delroy Headley. The group received several awards from the Annual DC Reggae Music Awards, in 1999, 2001 and 2002. In 1999 and 2001, the group received the award for "Best Female Reggae Singer". In 2002 the group received awards for "Best Reggae Recording", Best Female Recording" "Song of the Year" and "Producer of the Year". The 2nd CD entiled "Beware" was released in 2006.
