Album Notes
This old cult band from the UK started playing in 1973 and it wasn\'t until 1983 until they got their first full-length out called \"Widow\". Strangely enough the band was referred to as WIDOW back then because apparently the records that were floating around had no RITUAL name on it. RITUAL blends an unusual mix of 70\'s heavy rock and 80\'s rock sounds from the N.W.O.B.H.M. with a real dream-like effect. They\'re hard hitting old English Rock \'N Roll with a great clean singer/songwriter Gypsy Re Bethe that you might find yourself singing along to these infectious choruses. 10 years after \"Widow\" was released, came their 1993 album \"Valley Of The Kings\" picking up right where they left off in 1983. \"Valley Of The Kings\" sounds like it could have been released in 1984! Ritual have a unique way of blending hard hitting Rock \'N Roll riffs with melodic acoustic passages that take you out of this world.
If you love old 70\'s rock and metal like DEEP PURPLE, JUDAS PRIEST, and old N.W.O.B.H.M. like ANGEL WITCH, DIAMOND HEAD, QUARTZ, HOLOCAUST, etc... the RITUAL experience is what you need! These re-issues include never before heard songs, new and original cover artwork, an interview with Gypsy Re Bethe, lyrics, and old photos. Here’s your chance to listen to and find out more about the mysterious RITUAL.

A forgotten gem
For most, NWOBHM may not extend much beyond Iron Maiden or perhaps groups given exposure by Metallica such as Diamond Head, Blitzkreig, etc.

Ritual is one of those bands who never gained the notoriety of their contemporaries. A shame, because Ritual has one of the more unique sounds of the NWOBHM genre.

Recently picked this up and it has been in constant play since. The melancholy feel of Ritual's music is mesmerizing - particularly on tracks such as "Journey", "Burning", the instrumental track "Forever".

There are a few places where the recording is a little rough but hey, this was a self funded endeavor so they likely didn't have the luxury of retakes. These instances are few but they are there. However, this doesn't detract from the music itself.

I liked "Widow" so much I ordered the followup (which took a decade to release) "Valley of the Kings".

The liner notes from the CD suggest that 2009 may see renewed activity from Ritual - let's hope it produces a CD of fresh material. It has been over a decade since the last Ritual recording and we are long overdue for another. So Mr. Re Bethe, if you read this, give it another go - would love to hear more from you!
