Album Notes

The Boone Music Scene -
by Dave Brewer

What kind of music do people they think of when they think of Boone, NC? Does it have a specific sound? Is it just jambands and bluegrass bands? Do people that go out and see live music in town have expectations about what they're paying to see on a nightly basis?

The Boone Music Scene and a vast variety of bands from across the musical spectrum are making plenty of noise worth hearing.

Here in our eclectic college town, it seems that bands of all genres come together and break up about as often as the traffic lights change. A few acts such including Snake Oil Medicine Show, Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, Old Crow Medicine Show and a couple others have escaped, making the leap to varying degrees of national success. Unfortunately, these have certainly been exceptions to the rule.

Surprisingly enough however, some bands not only survive, but also thrive in the quirky, constantly evolving scene. The B.M.S. would essentially like to take a sonic snapshot of the current state of Boone-based bands and use the results to further unify the scene into a cohesive whole, bringing together the current fractured pile of bands that don't know each other and infrequently share the stage.
