Album Notes

riza-trioscapes is a solo project for riza arshad - leader/keyboardist an indonesian-based contemporary jazz group - simakDialog.

"for me, simakDialog is my baby, it's my home. trioscapes is another journey of my musical exploration..but, i know i'll always be coming back for home. as i grown up i've listened to some pioneers at the early fusion of jazz and rock, like miles davis, herbie hancock, dave holland, keith jarret, chick corea, john Mclaughlin and others. there are a lot of beautiful records they have made since miles 'bitches brew'. those music and spirit they produced has struck and elevated the continuance of jazz music development in years to come. but in this case, i'd like to define my style preference by playing only on certain period of modern jazz with some recent influences i had.
i'd like to experience the sharing that those big names had given to all of us. i called my friend, yance manusama - an unique anticipative electric bass player i've known for years. and arie ayunir (drummer, was a former member of 'simakDialog') finally aksan sjuman - another talented drummer who replaced arie - to form an open trio.
we start jamming and i wrote some originals. we played on several occasions then go to studio to make a master. i am not too sure about the right genre to be labeled to our music..some listeners called it 'subtle-funk jazz'.. uh, that's nice...hope you enjoy :)"
