Album Notes

“Melancholy Waltz… is a wonderful recording. Your ability to capture your emotion, while one of the most difficult things to do in recording, was done with ease.”
Billy Fields (Warner/Elektra/Atlantic)

“. Brilliant songs..It is great to hear an album where the songs, the performance, the overall feeling, really create a “picture” for the listener. This is really an “album”, in the truest sense of the word.” Peter Holmstedt (Hemifran)

From Big Book Records comes Melancholy Waltz, the first solo recording by piano/accordionist singer/songwriter, RICHIE LAWRENCE.

A veteran of 14 years in Los Angeles, Richie found his way onto every television network of the day. NBC, CBS, ABC, as well as Fox, HBO, NPR’s Weekend Edition, and Charles Kuralt’s “On The Road”. Numerous US tours, and 3 world tours, took him to most of these United States, Eastern Europe, Central America, and Indonesia.

Richie Lawrence is a founding member of The Loose Acoustic Trio with two releases on Big Book Records: Brand New Mind, and, Sorrow Be Gone.
“The ideal soundtrack for a better world” (Rootsville.be)

And now the solo debut, MELANCHOLY WALTZ. 12 songs, mostly piano, some accordion, ½ instrumental and ½ vocal, harmony vocals by I See Hawks In L.A., 10 original compositions, one stunning blues interpretation of Beethoven’s “Fur Elise”, and one endearing cover of ‘I Am Weary (Let Me Rest) sung in duet with his wife, Katie Thomas. One CD capturing the emotion and passion and techniques of Richie Lawrence on piano. A reflection of a tumultuous decade in world history expressed in a way that is somehow deeply sad and yet at the same time, sincerely hopeful; a Melancholy Waltz.
