#1 TOP SOUL JAZZ CD FOR 2003
"Rarely has soul jazz been so diverse and melodically interesting, while maintaining a rock-solid groove."
Chuck Ingersoll WGMC-FM wgmc.org
[released Dec 2003]
"Ron's jams are so tight, elegant, and chops-heavy, I would've sworn that he was from the UK! What a surprise to learn that he's a Yank, and a way funky one at that. His jams sound incredible on The Groove Boutique."
- Rafe Gomez, host of The Groove Boutique, syndicated jazz mix show - London, UK
"Ron Levy's new CD sounds more like 'Found My Way', then its title 'Finding My Way'! Back on board for the best Wild Kingdom safari ever, is legendary guitarist Melvin Sparks, and for added good measure ex-Grey Boy All-Star and now solo artist Karl Denson. Both add zesty spice to this AMAZING mix. Dig these heavy Levy organic grooves, I did!
-Bob Putignano - 'Sounds of Blue' WFDU-FM, Goldmine Magazine and President of the New York Blues & Jazz Society
"Thanks for the CDs! I frigging LOVE 'Finding My
Way' - Tim Schuller - Dallas Observer
"The opening cello notes signal that 'FINDING MY WAY' is not "just" another bluesy organ-based outing. The next hour-plus of listening confirms that Levy's savvy musicianship on Hammond, piano, Rhodes, keyboards, vibes and bass and his breadth of influences and inspirations, makes it as one of the choicest such albums of the new Millennium. Between RLWK's commanding monarch and his kingdom whose nobility includes seasoned groove-masters Melvin Sparks and Karl Denson, Levy's ensemble has produced a recording of noteworthy substance and excellence, with an infectiousness matched by its depth.
Just don't play 'FINDING MY WAY' where smoking isn't
allowed, because that's all Ron Levy's Wild Kingdom does from start to finish!"
- Dick Shurman - Producer/journalist
Just got FINDING MY WAY, via an order from Dusty Groove. I am, absolutely loving it! The recording/engineering is excellent, the playing and tunes and grooves are remarkable. Loving everything from the vibes to the Fender Rhodes sound, and Karl Denson. Melvin Sparks sounds completely into it and inspired.
A great CD, one that I'll put on my top 10 soul jazz CDs of 2003. I do a Friday nite show on WGMC, a public radio station here in Rochester, NY, called the Soul Jazz Spectrum, playing everything from Adderley to Soul Live. We also broadcast via the Internet (www.wgmc.org) and are soon, boosting our signal strength by a factor of 8 by the end of January.
We don't as yet get service from Levtron.com, but I can assure you that stuff of this nature will get airplay on my program and a few others. If you'd like to add us to your list, please do so. Thanks for the great, grooving music.

Lev has done it all the Way live this time. Ron Levy has brewed up some more chops that even old Grandpa Moses would enjoy. This is definitely a winner all the way from the back alley to the front porch people. Ron's sense of timing is brilliant. With messers Karl Denson and Melvin Sparks how could he go wrong. The writing is precise and the drum work is outta sight. Pay speacial attention to the the cool drummer men on this assignment. They really are the secret weapons that G-W was looking for fellow jazz freaks. This one is a no-brainer. You could hardly call it police work...even on my limmited budget. RLWK 'Finding My Way' is cd collection capper. Buy it and what a slam-dunk deal at CD baby dot com. The Wild Kingdom are super muscians who know how to groove...and make the masses wiggle, boogie and dance.Atleast until that grumpy land lord starts pounding on your bedroom wall. Organs are outrageous herein and the bass lines are so butt-defyingly brilliant. Get the bongos out brother man Lev!!

Ever since this CD landed on my doormat a week ago I have played it every day. This is a gotta have album for anyone who enjoys Hammond B3 and thoughtful composition side by side. Ron's B3 is subtle, versatile and well executed throughout, Denson's Sax adds dimension to the arrangements and Melvin Sparks is excellent as ever in a Blue Note Stylie. I loved the use of the solo Cello line and programming on track one, it really got my attention from the start and held my interest. I like all the tracks on this album apart from Star Spangled Boogaloo which is a bit tongue in cheek for my taste but then I never liked "God Save the Queen" either (evens!). "Finding My Way" is up there with George Colligan's "Mad Science" and JTQ's "A Few Tips about Living Underground". More of the same in the future I hope. Nice one!
