Every once in a while an artist comes around that demands your attention; an artist whose songs are both infectious and refreshingly mature; whose live performances are both energetic and emotional; an artist whose future is imminently promising. Rufus McGovern is one of those rare artists.
Rufus McGovern began chasing his musical destiny in Denton, Texas at the prestigious University of North Texas School of Music. After enjoying early popular success in the Denton-based rock band, Sleeperhold (a late-90s band whose appeal stretched far enough to warrant an international tour), Rufus helped form the art-based, alt-country band, The Lonelies.
Rufus then brought his resolute passion to create music with both popular appeal and artistic integrity to Austin, Texas, the lone star state's music city. Rufus has since emerged as one of Austin's most exciting new artists.

author: Doug Burr
How to describe 'the feel' of this music...forget how the music feels - this is music that makes YOU feel. Music you can't help but identify with. Music that stirs feelings, becomes your soundtrack, combining with memories old and new. This is pop-rock writing at its finest - like you used to hear on the radio - executed with precision. Don't miss this!

...... Poor Man's Heart sits comfortably in my CD changer in strong company.
author: Pete Buchwald
I have known Rufus for about 10 years. I have heard every one of his recording projects and played saxophone on one of them. Every time Rufus puts out a record I find myself more in awe of his talents. Each record, good in their own rights, gets progressively better. Poor Man Heart, being no exception, documents the growth of a natural songwriter and musician. Congratulations to Rufus and the musicians and others who worked on the project! As this CD sits in my CD changer with the likes of Sting, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Chopin I eagerly anticipate the records to come!!

Refreshing and honest...
author: Brandon Hatmaker
The songs of Poor Man's Heart is a true reflection of the artist Rufus McGovern. The lyrics are cleaver, authentic, and revealing. As the stories unfold they feel familiar, almost nostalgic, although told for the first time. I found myself both relating and empathizing as if I was absorbing deeply the intimate words of a stranger.
