Album Notes

I think I had an epiphany at the age of 14.

I would write a pop hit and that would solve all the problems in my life.

It was a great idea but all it resulted in was mucking up the process of songwriting for several decades.

I went on, nonetheless, to make my living all over the world as a musician well into my 30's, at which point it wasn't that much fun anymore and I had a family that required a bit more from me on a financial level.

I put the guitar in the closet, became a commercial audio engineer and a voice actor and have been exceedingly happy in that niche for close to 20 years. Do the math.....I'm a grandpa.

But the desire to write that quintessential tune never truly subsided. I have a slightly different toolbox now than I had at 14, some guitar chops, a basic understanding of music theory, about 40,000 first verses, having read The Artists Way, a degree in Lit.....but the really useful resource is 50 some odd years of life on earth and a notebook full of observations about what it means to be a human being. The wonderful thing about songwriting is that one can only get better at it, so it's truly a lifelong pursuit.

What Goes Around is a humble cairn of tunes along my path of life. It marks some thoughts and ideas I had at that point in the sojourn. I make one request when people take this CD home.....that they, at some point, SIT quietly, put on the headphones and LISTEN to the music. This isn't some egomaniacal claim to greatness, it's simply a way of saying you get what you give. If you give these tunes your time and attention, they will return the favor in a variety of interesting ways.

What goes around, comes around again.

Enjoy.

This CD is honest, warm and stunning both musically and lyrically. The guitar and vocals give the listener the feeling of coming home...in the most positive way. Listen to Rainin Fives for some seriously complicated and enjoyable chops, and Delores for the kind of lyrical insight that leaves you breathless. Richard's accomplished song writing, guitar playing and seasoned vocals are brilliantly exposed. This is one of my faviorite CD's.... ever!

I gave you my review on the phone, but here's an addition... You've given a lot of yourself to this and you're lookin' great! Not to mention sounding great with all your friends in the band. I listen yet another time writing this, being amazed and wishing Wanda and I could help you place your record somewhere. My emotions take over. I love the songs and your production. Keep doing it! It's a connection I never knew we had. Peter
