It's hard to believe that the former lead guitar player for the heavy rock band Acrophet has reinvented himself as a soulful, expressive and thoughtful acoustic roots rock performer. Nonetheless, the apparently effortless transformation is audible on ‘Hard To Believe’, the first solo album by Rob Anthony.
'Hard To Believe' clearly reveals he has turned his former angst of being a loud and proud rocker into a heartfelt singer delivering honest songs outlined by an acoustic guitar.
In 'She'll Come Home To You' Rob unleashes his singing and songwriting skills in an intense, upbeat performance inspired by a friends rough breakup he keeps hope of the day she'll run back. 'Just Me And You' with its put the top down ride through the desert feel, lets you join Rob’s dream of traveling around the world. 'Sister', a nothing to be short of song, Anthony belts out a message to his sister he hasn't heard from in several years while going on reminding us that love can be right in front of you without you even realizing it in ‘More Than A Friend’. We can't help being reminded of the many times we’ve lost our way only to gain control again when hearing 'It Wasn't Too Long Ago' before busting out it's "Hard To Believe that I am the one for you" in 'Hard To Believe'.
With that said Rob offers 'Hard To Believe' a blend of alternative country rock songs.

Rob Anthony comes with high praise and pedigree...
author: Chris Kresg
Rob Anthony comes with high praise and pedigree, an artist who understands his roots… Rob uses his legacy as an alternative artist to his advantage, creating a sound that is as comfortable lying next to classic Eagles as it is next to Tonic or Matchbox 20. Just Me And You rings with the kind of open honest vibe found in the music of Ryan Adams, Wilco, Golden Smog or the Jayhawks then roll in some Chris Hillman, Gram Parsons and Early Poco and you got what many critics are calling “Millennium Eagles with a touch of Mellencamp”.
…One thing is abundantly clear, this is as perfect a piece of work as exists in America today. This is work which could easily work its way onto any AAA station in the country, given that the station plays some Americana based music. Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams and Alejandro Escovedo all charted this year on AAA, so I do know it’s possible.
Personally I am stunned into a state of joy and bliss… For those of us who grew up on a pretty steady diet of Classic Americana and country rock, this former alternative metal lead guitarist has written, recorded and produced, what can only be considered a modern day classic country rock album… Give this man a Grammy for best country song of 2001; Just Me And You deserves it.
Bottom Line: This is as close to perfection as it gets.
