This is raw, honest, heart-rending songwriting from a singer who makes no apologies for being himself. It's not easy listening, and why should it be: life has provided the singer with no safe harbours or easy answers and he wants you to think about these issues rather than to please you. That is the hallmark of a real artist. The lyrics have a poetic quality and the piano-playing is haunting. This music has a timeless, enduring quality to it. Won't be forgotten in a hurry; in fact, you might not be able to shake it. It's that haunting, than spellbinding.
