Album Notes

DRAGONFLY
This collection of songs was conceptualized and mostly recorded while I was living in Korea during 2006. I was doing a lot of grass roots touring with my fusion trio, EN2 before I became an expatriot. I got burnt out from the road and found that writing and recording gives me a greater sense of satisfaction than most things. Taking time off and living in Asia helped me to really step away from things and dig in to the songwriting aspect a little more. The title track, "Dragonfly", is about someone I met while living in a small city east of Seoul, called Chun-cheon. I got the idea when I went to a Korean folk village in Su-won and saw a dragonfly exhibit. They were all preserved in a glass case and I had no idea that the wings could be so colorful, nor did I realize the variety that exists within that family of insect.
My background is in classical guitar, jazz, rock, and experimental music. I try to cover all the bases on guitar while focusing on music that deals with expression, first and foremost. I earned my Master of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 2002, before moving to Jamaica to teach for a year at Northern Caribbean University.
I'm looking forward to doing a lot more recording in the future. I'll be living in Los Angeles for the next few years working on my Doctorate in Studio/Jazz Guitar at the University of Southern California. Please feel free to contact me and let me know what you think of the new album.

Dragonfly Deja Vous

This is an incredible coincidence! A dear friend finds meaning in the symbol of the dragonfly as a sign from heaven that life is good for her son who crossed over. I wanted to find a dragonfly for her birthday. Googling dragonfly Korea, because Korea is also significant to my friend and her son, brought me to this amazing cd and to so many connections within the lyrics to her story that we are both still stunned. I know she'll be e-mailing soon! God blessed your talent, Robert, and though I do not know you, it is clear that you know experiences that I know, and feelings that I know. The lyrics are real. The music is stellar. It sounds like you're sitting on the couch jamming--raw but beautifully accurate and intricate though simple. I am so glad Google led me here!

Wow. Thoughtful, creative lyrics and intricate instrumentals that sound simple, not labored. Great job Rob, keep it up.
