ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Standards of the American Songbook have been circling in the back of my brain since I was very young. However, it wasn’t until a few years ago, when I took on writing my one-man show, "A Standard Love," that I reacquainted myself with––and formed a deep respect for––them. These standards from the 30's and 40's are undeniably some of the best music ever written. They are still theatrical, dramatic, raw, pure and true. The lyrics, in particular, spoke to me in such a visceral way that I knew I had found the source of my show. In each of these songs, I found an aspect of my own romantic life that resonated in my heart. I have a feeling you may as well. And if there is a hint of theatricality to the resulting album, that’s the reason. The songs that spoke to me fell into an order that portrays, via the lyrics, the journey of the heart through the scenario of loving and losing, and loving again.

Swinging on a star?
The revival in swing and the well worn American songbook standards has unearthed a mass of male vocalists crawling out of the woodwork to jump on the "trendy" bandwagon. The isn't a duff track on this album and Robert's a well mean vocalist. That said what is there here to set Mr Cuccioli apart from the "Micky Bubble's" or Robbie Williams (Swing while you're winning) of this world? I'd say nothing. Hate to put the guy down but maybe a change of material or a stab at American Idol could do the trick. At least the latter would get him some valuable exposure.I'm afraid the days of Italian origin actor/singers (Bobby Rydell et al) have long since gone but I wish him luck.

Love is Here to Stay with The Look of Love!
I went to see Spiderman Tuesday night where I was able to purchase a copy of The Look of Love, Robert Cuccioli’s new album. I was so excited that I put it on as soon as I got home. This may be a little cliché but as I listened, I truly got lost in the music. It brought me back to so many poignant moments in my life. Robert’s rich voice adds subtlety and substance to a beautifully crafted arrangement of songs. My favorites are: The Look of Love, How Do You Keep the Music Playing and the popular Frank Sinatra tune, I’ve Got You Under My Skin. I’ve always been a fan of the classic standards but Robert’s interpretation has brought my admiration to a whole new level. Definitely recommend this for any music enthusiast.

Give it to Your Valentine
Ever since my wife and I saw Robert Cuccioli star in "Jekyll and Hyde" on Broadway, we've become big fans. What a beautiful voice! When I heard about his new CD, I bought it and we both just love it. His selection of romantic songs is terrific. There are so many of them, probably 25. Our favorites are ""Love Is Here To Stay," "A Fine Romance," "Once Upon A Time," "The Look of Love" and "Witchcraft." To be honest, I'm just sorry I didn't wait until Valentine's Day to give my wife the CD. It's romantic and Robert is terrific. I highly recommend it.
