Veteran saxophonist/flutist/composer Robert Kyle & friends celebrate the 50th anniversary of the sensuous Bossa Nova with their latest release "Bossalicious." This collection features instrumental bossa Novas & Brazilian Jazz classics from the pens of masters Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ary Barrosso, Dori Caymmi, Guinga & more. Joining Robert on this "Bossalicious" journey are native Brazilians Roberto Montero on acoustic guitar and vocals, percussionist Cristiano Novelli and American percussionist Ami Moinelli. What makes this CD so unique is the instrumentation, acoustic guitar and TWO percussionists, with one of the percussionists functioning as a bass player by playing some kind of low drum. This gives the music a very unique texture and lots of space for Robert’s beautiful sax or flute to float over. The sparse & lovely wordless vocals are used as an additional instrument, adding another texture to the sonic palette of this delightful recording...

Bossalicious – an aptly name collection of classic compositions and new music for this complex and sensitive genre. Bossa nova is seldom played outside of Brazil with as much insight as this trio provides with each breath, pluck, and beat. Robert Kyle delivers a masterful performance reminiscent of Stan Getz’s tone and vision, while also being unique and fresh with ideas. His mellifluous and perpetually balanced saxophone lines draw the listener in close to the essence of many these serene and probing melodies. Special recognition goes to Roberto Montero whose terrific guitar work generates an authentic groove. His ceaseless innovations incorporate many of the complex harmonic concepts that are part of today’s most envied Brazilian guitar elite. Ami Molinelli represents the hidden treasure on this CD whose percussion tracks made me hit the repeat button more than any other CD I’ve heard in some time. No doubt she will be heavily recruited for her artistry. The trio is terrifically complementary in the way they play together. Somehow as they manage to pay homage to their influences while at the same time creating something entirely new and contemporary. If you play Brazilian music you might feel the twinge of envy I felt listening to this recording depicted by the the thought, “I want to do that too.” Indeed, this is an award-worthy, superbly recorded album that you will want to hear repeatedly. Bossalicious proves that bossa nova is alive and thriving more than 50 years after its inception and that a Rio de Janeiro address is not essential producing to the real thing. Don’t miss it! A Must-Have!

This recording is my favorite of Robert’s to date, and I've been a huge fan for years. The intimate trio sound is very seductive--Rob has put together everything needed and nothing more. This shows mature taste and nuance, and puts him squarely in the company of the great masters.
“Bossalicious” grooves innovatively, yet authentically Brazilian. The repertoire is a wonderful mix of gorgeous originals and treasured standards, and Rob’s writing, as always, shows depth and beauty.
This recording is SEXY-- I give it two thumbs up!
