notes
The music is very eclectic. You will float like a feather at one moment and find yourself charging across the sand on the back of a camel the next. The styles vary from trippy World jazz to concert rock to experimental blends of everything in between, driven by Roberto Luz's Electric Flute and delivered by a host of excellent musicians.
This might be the most organic Band in history.Roberto Luz lives on Lake Atitlan, in the Guatemalan highlands, on the edge of paradise. The Gringo trail is close by, so there are always plenty of musicians of every kind traveling through. Some stay for awhile and eventually end up playing with the band for a season or two.
Together we have formed Discos Atitlan, a musicians cooperative, to help each other record the diverse sounds of the many wonderful musicians that live and travel through here. The Mambo Balam Band is a result of this musical experiment.
The current Band:
Roberto Luz: flutes, guitar, bass, keyboards, steel drum, percussion
Bruce Deselle: Guitars and Bass
Davy Robinson: Drums and Percussion, Kalimba
Alvaro Silva: Bass
Cristobal Ottaviano: Guitar on "Reunion"
Laura Mendez: Sax on "Reunion"
