Robert Stallman does it again, breaking new ground for flute chamber music—First Recordings of three Sonatas of Franz Schubert (D.568, D. 574, D. 408) in original Stallman arrangements. After the stunning launch of the Bogner’s Café label with Mozart-Stallman~New Quintets for Flute & Strings, the master flutist now gives further evidence of a special instinct for transcribing, cultivated over many years—two new Schubert Quartets and a Quintet for Flute & Strings. This is some of the most exuberant music Schubert ever wrote, but never heard before in this form. Stallman is once again joined by members of the award-winning Martinu String Quartet and violist Karel Untermüller in infectious performances.
Stallman’s way of re-creating these works in the spirit of the composer makes listeners feel as though the composer himself has made the arrangements. Hearing Stallman’s previous disc of Mozart transcriptions, one radio host asks, “Could it be that maestro Stallman has channeled the master?” FANFARE Magazine says “it may seem like a conjurer’s trick, but it is actually the result of deep musical insight” and “loving labor”.

PREVIEW REPORT for this CD:
"I can’t find words to describe the delight I’m feeling as I listen to New Schubert Works for Flute & Strings. The transcriptions, like the flute and string playing, are spot on. And they provide fresh insights into music I thought I knew all too well. Bogner’s Café continues in the service of the best that music can convey."
William Zagorski, WWFM/The Classical Network
