Album Notes

Rob Foster (saxophones and flutes) honed his musical skills in Detroit, where he was immersed in the varied types of music that city is known for -- hard bop, blues, Motown, and funk. These diverse interests led him to study and perform music in many genres, resulting in performances with world renown musicians and entertainers, including Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, James Newton, Charlie Haden, Art Lande, John Denver, Mitch Ryder, the Temptations, and The Four Tops. His association with the musicians in The Russian Dragon Band (so named for their rhythmic flexibility, i.e. "rushin' and draggin'")began in Colorado in the early '90's. Currently teaching music at Augusta State University in Georgia, he performs frequently with a wide variety of groups, as well as the Augusta Jazz Project big band and the Augusta Symphony.

What a service Mr. Foster has done for jazz lovers young and old. This CD is a tasty departure from the stale, packaged stuff we hear again and again. The myriad styles on this CD are a tour of modern jazz, with a fun sense of style. A multi-course meal of some tasty musical substance. Lovers of jazz will enjoy this adventure! I sure did....
