Robin Duhe is an accomplished bass player and truly an artist with a new groove for the soul. Most are familiar with his 30-year association with the R&B group Maze featuring Frankie Beverley. As an original member of the group, he helped shape its sound for a whole generation.
Born in Oakland, California, Duhe came from a large musical family. He began his musical journey playing the trumpet in third grade and made an easy graduation to the French horn. Duhe's musical accomplishment brought him the distinction of playing in the honor orchestra performance at the New York World's Fair while only being in the sixth grade.
Though his musical training was grounded in wind instruments, it wasn't until his mother brought home a guitar that he began to fall in love with strings. Duhe strummed that four-string guitar like a bass and the rest is history.
After high school, Duhe was playing in bands around the San Francisco Bay Area that backed the likes of Etta James, Bobby Womack, and Ruddy Raymore. In the early 1970s, he played back-up bass for the Soul Messengers.
While in college, Duhe was introduced to the sounds of Maze at a local club. He liked what he heard and joined the group. Duhe loved the success that playing with Maze brought him, however, he never gave up the dream of making his own music. Duhe kept writing and when the time felt right, he made his dream a reality.
Do It Duhe, a project that has been five years in the making, is an honest piece that gives this self-taught bassist the voice to say what his heart has been feeling for so long. The CD, to be released February 2004, is the resonance of a devoted life to music.
In Duhe's own words, "Real music is music you can carry with you from childhood to the grave." Do It Duhe goes beyond lead bass parameters into a mirage of melodic undertones revealing a piccolo bass with guitar sound to supporting a blue's funk or the catchy hook of a sultry soul groove. Totally unstoppable and rarely cut, each track expresses the vision of an artist. Take a moment to listen to one man's dream; you will be captivated!

Duhe has done it. I listen to this CD in my car and my home. I love it's diversity from jazzy to funky, even covering a love song. There is a hint of the MAZE feel on one of the tracks. Overall a fantastic piece of work. Continue to do it Duhe. Bone
