Album Notes

In Progress, the first full-length, full-production release by performing songwriter Robin Renée, finds the artist, as the title suggests, in the midst.

The musical vignettes that make up In Progress look squarely at life in motion.

Each captures an elusive moment- of intimacy, anger, illusion, innocence- through the unwavering eye of a storyteller and poet (I'm a camera in disguise / Clicking off the snapshots as each new pose arises Progress).

In the fall of 1999, Robin Renée was introduced to producer Jayar, who has worked with the likes of Chaka Khan, George Benson, and McFadden & Whitehead, among others.

Though his background was firmly placed in R&B music, he was taken by the honesty and strength of Robin's rock-based material.

Along with engineer James Forbes, their work together resulted in thirteen tracks of polished, thoughtful pop.

From the bright jangle of For Today, to the mellow funk of Spiritual Ink, to the searing rock of Silent Partner, In Progress reflects, rightly, a smart, cohesive diversity.

Always outspoken, Robin Renée stands to expand our collective vision of sex and gender, spirituality and social activism.

Hers is a voice primed to sing out, with artistry, the intricacies of the soul- and of our millennial world.

This is an artist about to make her mark. Her poetry comes alive, bringing you to all the rooms of her heart and experience. She can rock, she can be mellow, but she's always unique! Her melodies have hooks that infiltrate your brain, and you find yourself singing them hours later. This is an incredible production, and she's backed by some very talented musicians! I'm VERY impressed!
