Album Notes

Drummer Robin Russell is world renowned and respected for his recorded and performance contributions with`70s funk/soul masters New Birth and their primarily instrumental counterpart The Nite-Liters. The Birthday album by New Birth and Anal-Y-Sis by The Nite-Liters were the first of many albums Robin recorded with those incomparable bands. Robin's distinctively tasteful yet muscular drumming can be heard on such New Birth classics as, Got to Get a Knutt, Wildflower, I Can Understand It, Dream Merchant and Keep on Doing It - all contained on the outstanding RCA compilation, The Very Best of The New Birth, Inc. In the recent years, Robin's drum beats have also been sampled by such hip-hop artists as A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, De La Soul, Big Daddy Kane, Fat Joe, the list goes on, and most recently on Unpredictable, the new hit titled CD by Jamie Foxx.

Prior to joining New Birth, Robin gigged with and trained under Johnny Guitar Watson, who Robin proclaims as his musical godfather. The engagements with Mr. Watson led Robin to the drum throne for the one and only Little Richard, with whom Robin can be seen in the classic video, The London Rock and Roll Show, filmed at Wembley Stadium. In his post-New Birth years, Robin toured the USA and Europe with disco giant Sylvester, reunited with Mr. Watson for gigs, and played for various other artists including Richard Berry, the composer of Louie, Louie. Robin is currently composing original works, giving private drum lessons, has recently reunited with New Birth for performances, and has been performing with Jud Duncan, Brad Pie, and other well known artists.

All drum parts on this CD were conceived and written by Robin in the serene surroundings of L.A.'s fabled Griffith Park, where Robin faithfully engages in sunrise to sunset sessions, nurturing his spirit, wood-shedding, composing and enjoying Mother Nature. This CD is a document of those vibrations..........A. Scott Galloway - Music Editor - Urban Network Magazine
