Sideman Sez

by Rob Loyot

The challenge with a project like this is to create something cohesive from widely ranging material. The CD sounds like a strong Singer/Songwriter recording with a killer band backing it up. STyles range from Rootsy old school R+B to acoustic rock.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes

Sideman Sez was born out of that feeling you get when you hear a great song and immediately call up your friends and say "you've GOT to hear this". As a "sideman" and bandmate for some amazingly talented songwriters over the last 25 years, I often had this electric feeling. 15 years ago I retired from being a full-time touring musician and realized how much I would miss the music being a daily part of my life. Having been in bands that played mostly original music, I struggled with the fact that some of my favorite songs had never been recorded and most had never been promoted to the public. Time passed and I moved from being a performer to being a producer and working with great songwriters in my recording studio "Noise in the Attic". I would often come home from a session humming or singing a track I was working on only to have my wife say, "you should really make your own CD". I knew I wanted to make this record, but the task was daunting and the project lingered on in the "someday" bin for years. In the Fall of 2011 the time was right to combine my years of experience as a performer, my producing/engineering background and the amazing resources of "Noise in the Attic" to create Sideman Sez. I'm thrilled to pay tribute to these brilliant songwriters with my take on a collection of their amazing songs.
