Album Notes

Contrast: the universal dynamic. Real and unreal. Light and dark. Quiet and noise. Isn't contrast what makes life interesting? The members of the Dallas-based band Robot Brown seem to think so, hence the name. Echoing the sounds of '80s Alternative Rock, yet fitted with modern sensibilities, Robot Brown's striking, dramatic sound carves a niche all its own. Out in front is the infectious language via the fluid, bittersweet voice of Russell Fincher. Shining vocal harmonies permeate the songs: triumphant vessels of observation and accomplishment, failure and recovery. Atmospheric, articulate guitar work by Gary Parks paints the listener's inner sky, while the band's contagious, pounding rhythmical foundation is provided by Danny Rix on bass and Matt Hunt on drums.

"In a world of pop princesses and anger-management class rejects bellowing about their rotten lives, it's nice to know we can turn to groups like The Strokes and the White Stripes for comfort. In that same effort of searching for something different, local '80s rock inspired band Robot Brown delivers..." says Jenice Johnson, Scene writer for The University of Texas - Arlington's The Shorthorn.

When the band first formed, Robot Brown wanted to have a solid recording of their music before making their debut. After nine months of intense writing, rehearsing and recording exclusively, the debut CD, 'A New Life For the Missile', was released in September 2002. Since that time, Robot Brown has received attention from both local and national press and had their music played on local and internet radio. Robot Brown has performed in and around the DFW area extensively and has toured nationally. The band's very first public performance was no less than a headlining slot at the Hard Rock Cafe Dallas - an almost unprecedented event. This achievement was born of sheer Industry buzz and fan response. In the Fall of 2003 Robot Brown showcased at New York City's Madison Square Garden as part of the New York International New Music Festival. The band has also showcased in Dallas for major label A&R, namely Warner Bros./Reprise Records. Other notable accomplishments include a spot on a nationally distributed compilation album from Atlanta's Shut Eye Records, and an interview and live performance scheduled for the State-wide PBS program "What's Up Texas", a show spotlighting Texas artists. Robot Brown has picked up both local and national label interest, and is gearing up to record their second album. There are opportunities coming at the band left and right, and they're just getting started.

Since the band began performing in November of 2002, Robot Brown has made people stand up and pay attention. The hypnotic sound, melodramatic passion and mystique surrounding the group has created a loyal following that crowds venues to hear songs like 'International Shade and Light", "Fire in the Zoo" and "Big Sky Mind". Honesty, unforgettable hooks and originality are the engine for Robot Brown's musical vehicle. These virtues, as well as a passion for delivering high-energy live performances and continually exceeding the musical norm are what propels Robot Brown. The band realizes that their ability to write meaningful, marketable and creative songs is what keeps them together... and looking ahead.

Sonic musicianship! Uncompromised detail! Tasteful honesty!

Remember when your were a kid and woke up on the morning of your birthday and you knew you were gonna get cool gifts and cake and ice cream? Well, this is better! It's difficult to label this music. It's more of sonic mood swinger; always in the right direction. If a bullet-shaped cloud rose out of your head and pushed you into the stars that tasted like electric chocolate whiskey and you drank a beaucoup amont, this is what Robot Brown makes you feel.....and it feels very correct! Hear it and consume it! You won't be let down.

Intense, melodic rock with great hooks and messages.

The CD presents itself with a sound not heard anywhere else on today's stations. Massive, dreamy guitars overlaid on a strong bass and drum section and topped off with vocal harmonies reminiscent of REM drive the songs. When listening to the CD, one can't help but get the feeling that all the great 80's alternative music has resurfaced with a new edge. Songs like "Big Sky Mind" and "For Once" resurrect that classic dreamy guitar tone and melodies circa The Cure, while rock-driven songs like "American Communication" and "Conspirator's Lovesong" hit you head-on from the first chord. A great album that presents something new to Rock Music!

great new CD

Wow, I was really impressed by this CD. The songs challenge the most discerning ear. The sound is full, the harmonics tight, the guitar work unique, and the lead vocal range has expanded noticeably since the stoneboy days. This CD is a great addition to any collection and a welcome respite from the trash can of corporate rock.

Fantastic! I'm so happy to see the Dallas boys doin' it again. It's been awhile since I've seen them perform-but their sound is as strong as ever. The songs all seem to cohabiatate in a dreamy, suspended world, with hints of the Cure, Doves, & Failure. A nice mixture and a well adjusted sound. I'm not sure what the songs are about but that ambiguity seems to compliment the music and vice-versa. I can't await to see them jam again. Totally looking forward to it!
