A UK based producer since 1994, experiencing most success between 1997-2000 (founder and engineer of the group “Pink Bomb”), with the tracks: Indica, Aftershock and Pink Bomb (Quad Communications / Global Underground). Remixes included projects for Perfecto (Tilt – I dream), Heat/Polydor (Moonman – Don’t be afraid), Bonzai UK (Return of the native – Da After) and Ishq Records (Bally Sagoo -Hai Hai).
Other publishing deals included licensing for Playstation games and compilation albums (Ministry of sound, Trance Nation, Global Underground etc). Appearances included repeated play on national radio (BBC Radio 1).
Since 2006, after a lengthy break from the scene, he has been working on a new back-catalogue in the run-up to the release of his debut album “Passengers” – an eclectic and unique mix of pop, dance, hip-hop and ambient tracks to suit any mood. The album is to be released through the newly-created independent label: China Red Media (UK).
What about us:
Although the name is new to me, the music certainly told a much older tale. Here is a musician who has been around polishing up his craft for some considerable time, even the merest drive-by of a listen will confirm that. When I read on his page that he started making online music in 1992, I recognised a fellow tracker. A lot of musicians (including yours truly) cut their musical teeth in this fledgling online music scene, many of which are now rightly famed. What it instilled in us - more than anything else - is an inordinate attention to detail. Listen, when most of the music you made was in code, you HAD to pay attention to the little details.
What About Us is a perfect example of that discipline paying off in the long run.
A pop track that raises influences such as ELO, Howard Jones and others, What About Us is about as close as you are going to get (in an unsigned sense) to the real deal, it\'s so commercial it should be wearing a shirt and tie. With it\'s knowing wink at the 1980\'s electro-pop scene, What About Us is the kind of track you take up and treasure. Class production, excellent performances and one of the strongest pop songs you are likely to hear on Soundclick or anywhere else. Absolutely first class.

Broken is listed as \'ambient electronica\'. One thing I have noticed about Soundclick is there is a LOT of music placed in genres that they just don\'t belong in. This song is NOT one of them. What you get here is EXACTLY as promised but better.
I must admit the first few seconds it started out with a bit of a droning string that was a bit discordant and I thought for just a bit \'oh boy, some kid just got a new synth\'. This was purely bad form on my part because a few more seconds into it I was realizing that I was hearing a completely competent production and a fine one it is.
This song would be very at home in the rolling credits at the end of a good movie. Certainly it has great soundtrack potential. There is nothing pretentious about the song or it\'s delivery.
There are no vocals and you likely won\'t be tapping your toe, but you might turn it up real loud in your car on a nice drive through the woods. It has a bit of a calming effect and I can only imagine anyone who is into indie movie production would have their ears perking up at this one thinking of the possibilities.
What can you do:
What Can You Do is listed as General Pop. It\'s probably a good category for it. Upon first listen I kept drawing a bit of Madonna comparisons (work with me here).
While on the face that may sound like some kind of oddball slam what I mean is this. There is a young lady doing vocals and she is singing very competently. It absolutely has shades of her kind of poppy influence (even if they know it or not). I am no fan of that particular style, yet having heard some of Rob Prestons other stuff I can assure you this is his way of communicating a style. He is certainly not married to the style, but rather like an oil painter he is just expressing his views on that style.
If I haven\'t confused you enough let me go a bit more into the deep end. All that crap I was saying about Madonna, one thing is certain, like her or not her (not that SHE does the producing, Rob Preston is seemingly MUCH more talented in that dept than she personally would be) productions are top notch. And all Material Girl aside, this song is a top notch production. It is a well balanced mix that would find it\'s self at home in any dance type venue and on the pop radio. And while I myself may not be particularly fond of the style I AM appreciative of a good mix and the effort it took to lay this song down as competently as it is.
There is nothing I could see adding or taking away here in the mix, production or the material. It absolutely represents what I believe Rob set out to achieve with this one and it represents it well. If you are in the mood for some \'General Pop\' one could chose to listen to much worse than this song, and by more acclaimed celebrities.
I think you will know what I mean when you hear the song, Kudos to Rob for hitting his target in the head with this one.
