Album Notes

Robynn Ragland's infectious performing and songwriting has set her on a widespread wave of indie-based exposure. As one critic said, "Ragland seems as if she were born to be a star. A remarkable musician, she writes songs with both the gutsy edge and melodic beauty of such artists as Chrissie Hynde, Aimee Mann and Sheryl Crowe." Robynn was voted "Best Pop Artist in St. Louis" and was recently named "Songwriter of the Year" by the 2004 DIY Music Convention. This summer, Robynn will hit the road for a series of solo dates along-side the Fleetwood Mac 2004 Tour. Robynn was born in Joliet, Illinois and started classical piano lessons at age 5. After two label signings with companies that failed to produce her debut record (Paladin Records & Red Ant Records), Robynn self-released her debut in her own Midwest. Robynn's soul-sticking single "People You Know" quickly became a regional smash hit and her album 'Modern American Female Gut' became the #1 Best Seller in Missouri & St. Louis (Amazon.com). Robynn's material has been described as "hugely appealing ... filled with an abundance of lovely melodies and thoughtful lyrics" -- "both lyrically and musically a showcase of impeccable craftsmanship." Her songs have appeared on shows like the WB's Dawson's Creek, the Fox Network's Wonder Falls, MTV's The Real World and in feature films like "Wish You Were Dead", and Disney's "Tru Confessions". Either solo or with her 5-piece rock band, Robynn has performed along-side national artists such as Tom Petty/Jackson Browne, Aerosmith, James Taylor & Stevie Nicks and has shared the stage with artists like Dido, Sixpence None The Richer, The Bare Naked Ladies. Robynn is the sole writer and a co-producer, (along-side her favorite guru, Adam Schmitt), of all her material.

I heard a clip of "trying to fly" on a tv show and was hooked instantly. After a week or so of hard internet detective work i found out who the artist was and where to get her cd. There is not a bad song on this disc, one of the better purchases i've made in recent history. My personal favorites are "People you know" "trying to fly" and "juggerknot" but the album is incredible. Her PR people need to step up the program and get her out in the mainstream. I sure hope she makes it to the east coast so i can go see a live show. A tour with her and Lisa Loeb would be about as good as it gets.

this CD is great, stands on its own, no female tom petty labels needed. excellent songs, song writing and production. even my cousin Rich liked it, and he dislikes most music today [ possibly the highest honor ever !]. Not one song gets skipped on the CD changer. good work, The folks in St Louis were right...

I bought this CD after hearing a tiny clip of one song ("Peace In The Water"), thinking it would be worth the price of an album just to have the full song, but hoping, of course, that the rest of the album would also be worth a listen. I wasn't disappointed - this CD is great, from beginning to end. I've had in my discman nonstop since I received it 2 days ago, and it's not going to be moving to a shelf anytime soon. Excellent job, thank you!
