Album Notes

A remarkably arresting presence frames Rachel Pollack’s extraordinary talent. Jonas Sörman on guitar and Claes Nyström on keyboards display immeasurable production and arranging ability. The trio has created a debut album that MUSIC CONNECTION MAGAZINE gives its highest score to for 2001…

“Rachel Pollack’s impressive voice (reminiscent of Sinead O’Connor and Alanis Morissette, sans histrionics) blends perfectly with the rich tapestry that this skilled band creates. Avoiding gimmickry, the CD’s crystalline production quality simply allows each song’s luxurious melody to reach full-flower. The band’s polished KCRW-ready sound is downright compelling.”

When they are not performing and writing their own songs, they spend their time scoring music for movies, television and their advertising campaigns. They recently completed the score for the feature length documentary “Sketches of Frank Gehry” directed by Academy Award™ winning Sydney Pollack. “Sketches” will be released theatrically this May and will air on television worldwide in September. Their list of credits include the theatrical campaigns for such films as Kingdom of Heaven, Fantastic Four, Ice Age 2, Robots and Cheaper By The Dozen. A complete list of their credits can be seen and heard at SORMANNYSTROM.COM.

That voice...those eyes... amazing
author: Corey Warlick
This woman has always had such a sexy voice. What control. She's a seasoned veteran. I once had the pleasure of spending a year in class witnessing her talent grow. She is so silky. Listen to that tone and texture. The other thing I remember about her is she could melt any man with those beatiful eyes. I love her!!!

The Missing Link
author:
I used to own 6,000 records and sold them, now to own over 8,000 CD's. I purchase music from all over the world with a passion! Now this CD by ROCKETBOB is amongst the best emotional and perfect pop/rock recordings I have ever owned. Refined and beautiful music that eludes the usual TOP 40 category but this could play in several genres including the commercial and the progressive. I wish they had left out the song 'Tangents' as it pulls in the cheap side of commercial want, but other than that, the remaining 10 songs are laced with beauty, that special sexy wetness in the production, and a band that ranks in the top for superlatives and class. Let us hope they don't lower their standards or sell out their sound. The world of musical success sucks and keeps so many brilliant artists down. ROCKETBOB is UP so buy this CD and allow them to STAY UP! For fans of angelic music who might be looking for a more accessible Kate Bush. Listen to 'Wide Open Spaces' and weep! GREAT CD!

This is the kind of pop that should be compared to furniture- the many kinds of plump, billowy couches and pillow chairs you can fall into, that embrace your weight, filling in the empty spaces between your limbs. Surrounding her audience with flowing layers of electro-acoustic textures, like hanging curtains, rippling in a breeze, her songs are epic and swirly yet gentle and unforceful, without pretense. Exploring subtlety as equally as expanse, Rocketbob, both the band and the album, is a lasting, lingering memory of pop playing with folk playing with old and new traditions of songwriting- a memory like those small things throughout life which seem so inconsequential but make such an impression: the way a leaf was spinning in the wind one day, the way the sun was filtering through the blinds- it's that kind of subtlety that Rocketbob captures and celebrates. It goes without saying- it's worth experiencing.
