ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Rockin' Johnny Band's latest independent release "More Real Folk Blues" was recorded live at Chicago's intimate club B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted. This CD features Rockin' Johnny's trademark incisive, true-Chicago style guitar playing that marked his first two releases on the Delmark label. This band shines in front of a crowd and you can feel the excitement when you listen to this recording. Also featured as a special guest is Howlin Wolf's longtime saxman/bandleader Eddie Shaw. This CD is a blues guitar lovers dream with songs in the style of Earl Hooker, Magic Sam, Hip Linkchain, and Jimmy Dawkins.

“Johnny is a superb guitarist who plays much in the same way as the great Earl Hooker was around 1962, or like a young Buddy Guy”. Bruce Stovel, See Magazine,
Edmonton, Canada

The Rockin' Johnny Band regularly performs at clubs, concerts and festivals worldwide. The band has played the Chicago Blues Festival for the past four years. They turned in a thrilling performance at the 2001 San Francisco Blues Festival. Recent tour dates included: Honolulu Blues Society concert in Honolulu, Hawaii, The Low Country Blues Bash in Charleston, SC, and The Silver Dollar in Toronto, Canada. They've also toured Europe twice, headlining festivals in Belgium, France, and Germany.

Here's what some other people have to say about The Rockin' Johnny Band:

“Top-notch ensemble work, playing with power and drive and a keen sense of
dynamics...” Living Blues

“Rockin' Johnny shows a rare knack for remaining true to his blues forefathers while expressing himself in his own voice”. Chicago Sun-Times

very good blues

Cookin' stuff! You could practically fry an egg on it!
Cookin' stuff! This is about as fine an example of contemporary Chicago blues as you're going to find out there today. It's as if Howlin' Wolf's band were alive and making music today -- complete with Eddie Shaw blowin' bloody murder on the saxophone on a couple of cuts. Only it's not the Big Man up front. It's Rockin' Johnny Burgin -- skinnier, lighter-of-complexion but fiery nonetheless -- playing his own originals as well as some well-chosen blues chestnuts. These guys really get it!

Don't let the title fool you! This CD ROCKS!
Loud, grinding, sweaty Chicago blues at it's finest! Heavy on guitar instrumentals, it's sure to please fans of Magic Sam, Buddy Guy and Otis Rush. Special guest Eddie Shaw tears it up on the first two tracks.

fine Andrew Brown song
This is a nice album not only because there's a fine version of You Better Stop (Stop Hurting Me) of Andrew Brown's song from his USA session, Johnny is a tastefull guitar player with ears for good songs!
