Album Notes

Following a ten-year period of creating and performing children's music, Rockland-Miller releases her magnificent debut album for adults. Rockland-Miller describes her songwriting style as "lyric-driven," explaining that potent images and experiences are almost always her launching pad. In listening to Devour, this is readily apparent, as each song possesses an exquisite, poetic quality. All ten of the album's songs exemplify the stellar quality of Rockland-Miller's unique gift with language. These songs range from the ethereal opening track "Face Value," in which the ability to walk through life blindly is poignantly lamented, to the rockin' love song Devour, in which Rockland-Miller boldly proclaims, "The atmosphere will vanish as the barrier grows thin."

However, there is much more to Devour than outstanding lyrics, as a cast of brilliant rock musicians gives the album a tight, uplifting musical core. Rockland-Miller jokingly refers to the album's extraordinarily accomplished co-producers, Tony Perrino and John Stevens, as her "fairy godmothers," and each contribute tremendously to the album's musical quality. Perrino, an extraordinarily talented multi-instrumentalist who has played extensively with Dan Toler of the Allman Brothers Band, delivers mesmerizing Hammond B-3 organ solos throughout the album. Perrino's other credits include playing with Orleans, Blue Oyster Cult, The Winters Brothers Band, Larry Coryell, and Matt Smith, as well as running Tony's House Studio, an independent recording studio. Stevens has co-written songs and done studio work with artists ranging from Dan Toler to Carl Mateo, is partner of Perrino and assistant engineer at Tony's House Studio, and has played with numerous bands in the northeastern U.S., helped enormously with the album. His driving, rippling guitar makes "Incomplete Information" an irresistible hit.

Through Devour Rockland-Miller emerges as a gifted singer/songwriter, able to speak to the most universal aspects of the human experience with great confidence and vibrancy, yet with a delicate and haunting touch.
