Album Notes

Rod Hill received his bachelor’s degree and began teaching at the Wyomissing Institute for the Arts in Wyomissing, PA. Subsequently, he taught classical guitar at Albright College from 1982-97. In addition, Rod has extensive performance experience as a classical and rock guitarist and has received awards for his fiddle playing. He has recorded guitar, banjo, fiddle, and mandolin on dozens of vinyl albums and CD’s as a session musician.

On stage, he has opened for Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, David Bromberg, Don Reno, and many other blue grass headliners.

His first album, A Rose for Christmas (originally released on vinyl in 1980) was reviewed in Frets magazine by Jim Hatlo. The album featured Hill’s transcriptions of thirteen Christmas favorites performed on the classical guitar and still sells in local markets on CD.

Hill resides in Reading, PA where he teaches guitar, banjo, bass, fiddle and mandolin to a variety of students. His students have won scholarships to Berkley School of Music in Boston and West Chester University and have enjoyed successful recording careers as well.
