Album Notes

Sixteen songs from the life and times of one of folk's premiere songwriters, exploring the political and personal sides of today's world, from Springtime In America and Election NIght At Walmart's hopeful look at the future, to Why It's So's sardonic take on murder, torture and celebrity juries. Throw in The Bellybutton Song, an instant children's classic where not only you, me and Snow White have bellybuttons, but also Jesus, Mohammed, Gandhi and the Dalai Lama, plus When You Were Two, a song that will have you asking yourself: What do I really remember of my own life?
"This is another terrific collection of political songs and beyond. It's what we've come to expect from this stalwart of the folk world, delivered with Rod's smooth, identifiable tenor"...Sing Out! autumn/winter 2012
"A delightful collection of sixteen songs that inform, question, challenge and celebrate community as well as the personal….there are stacks of rich pickings on SONGS OF FREEDOM. Time to wake up and listen"…. Arthur Wood, © Maverick Magazine August 2011

REVIEWS

Once again.

I always preface my review of Rod MacDonald's Music by saying I am a fan and have been for quite a few years. What I like most is his ability to continue to evolve. His music never stagnates, falls into a "form" nor become worst of all predictable. With an ever keen eye on world politics not much excapes the fury or satire of Rod's pen, guitar and voice. The only thing that has continued without much change other than progression is the quality of this product.
