Album Notes

The music is best described as rootsy folk rock with a pop edge. The first thing you'll notice is that Sebastian has both a distinct narrative style as well as a strong melodic sense.

"Sometimes I tell a story, and sometimes the subject matter is more abstract, but I always try to give the listener something to think about with the lyrics."

"Some of his songs are phenomenal. I absolutely adore cut number four, "Dance with Me". It's a killer track."

--Suzie Mudd, Music Monthly

"Vegas Dream" reads like a short story. Two young lovers set out on Route 66 with nothing more than a scheme and a wish. A standout storyline with an Americana-centered melody that lingers."

---Maria Villafana, Washingtonpost.com

"I think Sebastian has a good sense of melody and hook. He has somewhat of a no-nonsense blue collar style."

--Stacey Board, The Muse's Muse

"He is a fine guitarist and singer.....perhaps it's his charisma that makes you follow his voice from line to line until the very end."

--Paula Phillips, The Chesapeake Music Guide

"He's learned how to craft good solid American songs. He's also learned how to sell the material with his voice. It makes you want to listen to what he has to say. His take on things is usually refreshing."

---Ty Ford, Music Monthly Magazine

Having met Rod not too long ago and hearing him play covers, I wanted to hear his own sound. Great songwriter and music is awesome! Hope to hear the originals next time I see him!

Come for the Weekend
author: Lee Armstrong
Rod Sebastian's independent release is worth seeking out. Coming in a paper sleeve, the packaging is a low-budget affair. But Rod has obviously put the money in the music. He's got an expressive vocal delivery on these 11 original songs. "Angelene" is chiming harmony-laden pop tune. "Vegas Dream" is talk-sing vocal barrage that is a road song with Sebastian's churning guitar, "Fortune's just ahead, I can see the promise land." "Keep Me Company" boasts a pretty melody with a country ballad, "Look up to the sky, look up & you'll see, You & I belong to eternity." "In the Middle of the Night" has Sebastian's raging guitar with some tasty Glenn Workman keyboards in what is a respectable indy-rock gem. "Do U Want Me" is a lonesome balladeer with Sebastian's pleading howl like a bass version of Jimmie Dale Gilmore. "Come for the weekend, stay for all time, you bring the movie, I'll bring the wine, talking for hours in the night," Rod sings on the sweet romantic acoustic ballad "Ordinary Queen." The set ends with a pretty country ballad that brings religious imagery and concludes the set on a spiritual note, "He comes down & walks on water, He comes down and stands by me." Rod Sebastian is an interesting songwriter. "The Cheshire Chronicles" is not the most unique sound, but it is a very good one. This is going to be a hard disc to find, but there's some good material here. Enjoy!

Track 1 "Angelene" had me initially hooked. The lyrics are absolutely beautiful and sincere; however, "Vegas Dream" and "Dance with Me" made a true supporter of Rod's original music. He doesn't mind taking a chance and writing songs which vary in tempo and an overall vibe. If you're bored with what's on the radio lately, and want a taste of what "real music" is about, pick this one up. It's one that a folk, bluegrass, and rock fan as well as a "pop" fan will pick up and listen to at home or on the road.
