SmoothJazz.com Review
It’s my pleasure to introduce you to a talented saxophonist, producer, and arranger from Newark, New Jersey. His name is Rod Williams, and his second solo release, HANDS DOWN, is an aural treat for the ears. If you’re a fan of the classic sound of Grover Washington, Jr., then this album will captivate you, just as it has me, with it’s gentle aura… reflective, I suggest, of the man behind the music. Rod’s songs and playing are lyrical, understated, tasty, well-produced (in his own home studio!), and quite appealing. Mr. Williams creates an almost ephemeral sound from his instrument… very classy, very elegant, even when the tempo and energy go up, as with “Jiordyn’s Groove” and “Funky Sensation.” In the world we find ourselves in today, gentle and elegant are good, and Rod Williams’ new release, HANDS DOWN, offers that refreshing vibe to us when we need it the most!

The SOUND of SAX
Saxophonist Rod Williams gives SAX a voice and he speaks loud and clear. Rod speaks as a pioneer blending relaxing and at times invigorating tracks. “Hands Down” covers the full spectrum of Sound. A excitingly, enticing instrumental pieces his album is about music and emotion in the most profound way.

Listen further you'll experience beautiful melodic freedom, and elegant phrasing on each track blending contemporary jazz sound with a pinch of sweetness. Rod has just the right mix; there are many sweet spots on this project. Check-out tracks Funky Sensations, Grover’s Style, A Song for Karen, and Jiordyn’s Groove. His original compositions draw influence from the late Grover Washington Jr. his grandson Amari and his sister Karen. Stop by his music store and pick-up several copies. http://classic.cdbaby.com/cd/rodwilliams2
