Album Notes

Bob has been playing guitar for more than thirty years, performing all across the United States. He has played with such musical celebrities as Cal Collins, Gary Thomas, Chris Vadalia, Bobby Shew, Rich Mattison, Delbert Felix, Billy Drummond, Howard Curtis, and the Johnny Trudeau Orchestra. Bob also toured and recorded with the 'Jazz Ambassadors', the Army's official touring jazz ensemble, for five years - appearing on television and radio shows nationwide, and at some of the major educational conferences including the National Association of Jazz Educators (NAJE) convention in 1980, now known as the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE).

Bob has also authored an instructional jazz guitar chord book entitled 'Jazz Chords and Progressions' which carries with it an endorsement by legendary jazz great Joe Pass and has been featured in a guitar clinic given by Jack Peterson at the International Association of Jazz Educators.

Bob spent half of his 20 year military career as the sole guitar instructor and sometime bass instructor, combo instructor and theory instructor for the Armed Forces School of Music - the only music school in the military. He retired from active duty in 1990 and is thrilled to be back in his home town of Cincinnati - land of Skyline Chili, White Castle Hamburgers, United Dairy Farmers, Cincinnati Reds, and Cincinnati Bengals.

Since returning to his home town of Cincinnati, Bob has performed regularly at several area clubs including the Blue Wisp Jazz Club, Co Co's, the Dee Felice Cafe, and many other clubs and restaurants in the Greater Cincinnati Area, as well as the first Riverboat Row Jazz Festival in Newport, KY. and several Cincinnati Jazz Guitar Society presentations. Bob has also been a featured clinician for the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music Guitar Department and the Cincinnati Jazz Guitar Society. Sadly, the Cincinnati Jazz Guitar Society is now defunct.

Stellar Organ Trio
author: Dan Adler
Bob Roetker's organ trio CD features some great music and fantastic playing. Bob's rich dark tone grabs you from the first sound and then his wonderful flow of ideas and stunning technique keep you listening and interested all the way through. This is one of those albums you will definitely want on your iPod. It swings, it defines a mood and stays with it, the band sounds great together, and it holds up to many repeated listens.

[Bob] Roetker has produced a stunning trio album ...
author: Adriam Ingram - Just Jazz Guitar Magazine
It is always good to discover new players. Especially when they are as good as Robert Roetker. Of course, the term "new player" is not really appropriate, for like most well-seasoned musicians, Roetker has been playing the guitar in relative obscurity for over three decades. Basically a straight-ahead player who errs toward the gentle sophistication that only experience and confidence can furnish, Roetker has produced a stunning trio album, ably supported, indeed positively enhanced, by Wayne Yeager's Hammond B3 organ, and Steve Barnes' tasteful drumming. Like the playing, the material on "Just A Few" is standard fare, with such favorites as Invitation, How About You, and Love Letters. Other tunes come from the 'jazz standards' repertoire featuring rarely recorded but great jazz tunes such as Just A Few (Shorty Rogers), Home At Last (Hank Mobley) and Off The Top (Jimmy Smith). Roetker was a guitar instructor for the Armed Forces School of Music, but now resides in Cincinnati, where he is rapidly making a name for himself on the local gig circuit. He is from the school of Herb Ellis and Joe Pass, which places emphasis upon melodic playing and interesting harmony. Given his age, however, (he was born in 1948) it is not surprising that he has also assimilated elements of Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino and George Benson. His most fiery side is in strong evidence on Martino's One For Rose. I must congratulate Bob on an exceptionally fine release. "Just A Few" features strong tunes and strong playing by all concerned.
