RED GREEN BLUE, White light’s primary colors.
This newest album from Roger Brainard, ‘RED GREEN BLUE’, draws from elements of Afro/Cuban, Rock, Folk, Hip Hop, Ambient and Classical to create an atmosphere pulsing with deep grooves, organic melodies, bare knuckle themes and White Light.
The first four songs create a suite that travels calmly through layers of Rhythm and Texture. The set kicks off with deep Afro/Latin grooves and soaring guitars as “HAPPY” invokes images of free flight and calm waters . “Livin’ the dream’ follows with poly-rhythmic guitar harmonies floating over Shin Mace’s foundational drumming and Bionica Lee’s metaphoric bass lines. Flocks of guitar appear and merge as the journey gathers momentum.
‘Migration’ lifts off in waves of motion and commotion and settles into an instinctual free flight. ‘Fly my love’ is a poignant conversation performed on acoustic Guitar and Viola and a fitting finale to the suite.
Here’s to the Dreamers* Bare Knuckle attitude and scorching guitar riffs bubble to the surface through a deep Swing/shuffle groove. ‘DREAMERS’ pays homage to the roots of Blues, Jazz, Rap and Hip Hop by utilizing the ‘TOAST’ format of spoken word over rhythm that was often heard in Clubs and Churches alike.
Vasoline – Written in the ‘stream of catharsis’ style this heavy rock indictment muscles through complications, joy, hope and fear with Punk power trio intensity as Glico Pools pounds out rhythm under Roger’s vocal and guitar.
Crashed Logic is a soul-groove gone wild. Originally inspired by a Motown classic (no, I won’t tell you which one) the song quickly evolved into a three part power struggle between bass and drums. Rogers guitar cries not so very gently over Shin’s drums and Warrens Bass…. the beat goes on.
D.I.G. (through the wall) . Many thanks to the Avante Lutheran Choir of Peoria !!! recording this was revelatory!!! A combination of live and studio sounds from an uplifting Rock Choir fronted by Roger's intense vocal and guitar delivery.
I hope you will give a listen ..many blessings - roger
