On the Strings of the Rain” displays an unusual variety of musical styles ranging from classical to popular. The prevailing effect is dreamy and moody, lyrical and lush. In striking contrast is the highly rhythmic energy of the Habanera and other Spanish-flavored pieces. The CD is largely instrumental music that relies heavily on the harp, flute, violin, cello and piano, with light touches of percussion. However, three vocalists are featured in a total of eight songs.
“On The Strings of the Rain” features several important artists in the world of classical music today. Harpist Emily Mitchell has had a brilliant career since winning the Israel Harp Competition in the 1970’s. Beside being an RCA recording solo artist, she has collaborated with high-profile artists such as James Galway, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, and Michael Jackson, to name only a few. She has played in the musical scores of many films including Disney’s Aladdin and Fargo, as well as in many Broadway musicals. Roger Keele, the producer of the CD, is a versatile musician, playing the flute, the alto flute and the piano on the album. Most of the instrumental arrangements are his, and there are several of his original compositions. Other well-known artists include soprano Cynthia Clayton, and cellists Kevin Dvorak and Barrett Sills.
