Album Notes

ROGER "BASS MAN" KURT
"The Lowest Singing Voice in the Islands, possibly the World!"

Roger Kurt was born in Los Angeles, California and spent his early childhood in San Diego, California. He moved to Hawaii in 1966 where he attended St. Joseph's Elementary School, Damien High School, and later graduated from the University of Hawaii with a degree in Psychology.

Roger's musical training started with piano lessons. Later, he began playing the coronet and the trumpet while still living in San Diego. He received twelve years of private trumpet lessons through the Cody School of Music in San Diego. During that period, he performed in a 300-piece concert orchestra and also played in a dance/swing/jazz ensemble. After moving to Hawaii, Roger taught himself how to play both classical and electric guitar. He played in various rock groups during and after his college days. More recently, Roger began performing as a singer. He has received vocal training through the Sounds of Aloha Barbershop Chorus and has also received private vocal training.

As a singer, Roger has performed with the aforementioned Sounds of Aloha Chorus, The Singers of Hawaii, the Honolulu Symphony Chorus, the fifties group, The Love Notes, and most recently with the acappella singing group -
SHAKAPELLA, which he co-founded

Roger Kurt has been blessed with a unique and distinctive voice, which is rarely heard! His voice is unusually low and resonant. He sings in the register of a Contra Bass or a "Russian" Bass, which is an octave lower than a traditional bass singer and two octaves lower than a baritone singer.

Roger's second and newest CD is entitled: "HAWAIIAN REFLECTIONS" - The Basement Tapes. This new CD is a compilation of original music, written and produced by Roger himself. The CD "relects" his feelings for the Hawaiian Islands in various musical genres. Roger expresses his love for Hawaii through Rock, Reggae, Samba, Slack Key Guitar, Blues, Ballads and even some Comedy!

I am amazed something so bad could be inflected on others, both albums I have heard by "Mr. Bass Man" have been the most painful listening experience I have ever had.
