Mandy Rogers & Christa Wells are sisters who have years of experience in being creative together--backyard musicals, song & dance numbers on the family room "stage," community plays, etc. Now all grown up, Mandy is painting and teaching art at the university level. Christa was recognized in 2006 by the GMA for her writing of the Natalie Grant song "Held." Both sing and write on piano. Mandy and Christa share a love of music and family and faith; and this album is truly a reflection of all three.

Music was always “the thing” for me--I loved melody-making and wordplay as a child and began playing the piano in early grade school. My first attempts at actual songwriting (not counting the nursery rhyme tunes I created when I was six) took place when I was about 15 and in the midst of a depressing high school experience, and they weren't great songs. BUT, at the risk of sounding cliche, a door to another universe opened for me with that first song...I found a place in writing where I'm at home--in my own headspace--and I can roam freely and explore and play with the pieces of a lyrical and musical puzzle until everything fits. It still feels that way.
I studied English Education and Music Industry at college in Indiana and gained a lot in the way of experience there, but the bulk of my growth as a songwriter has been and continues to be the result of doing it. I’m not all that interested in being an “artist’s artist,” though I value the knowledge and insights of other writers. I’m more interested in creatively communicating stories and questions and discoveries—anything true—to people who are interested and willing to listen.
Performing my own songs is not something I’ve been ambitious about, and simply writing has been satisfying as well as a good fit for the realities of my family life. But I think we needed to do this project…because we’ve loved some of these songs for so long. And because some of the newer ones needed to be written and possibly could only be sung by us. Enjoy.

HELD

I met your cousin in the library of Ulster County Community College awhile back. I was writing a paper about my experience of having my beautiful Baby Bonnie born still. Your cousin helped me with some computer problem I was experiencing and we got to talking. I woud like to send you my finished paper. It is now completed. Love, Jane

So Much to Savour

Richly talented, highly gifted. In Mandy Rogers & Christa Wells, you have 2 singers of contrasting voice & singing style. What’s the result? They complement each other. Ms. Rogers has a soft tone voice while Ms. Wells has a more hard edge to hers, which in a way lend more credence to their singing.
On the songs, they are well-crafted with much thought & love going into the writing, music and production. The songs are more in the vein of folk, some light-pop rock category – maybe think 10,000 Maniacs (shoot me if I’m wrong). My favourites are ‘Can You Hear Me’, ‘Slip Away’, ‘Held’, ‘This is What We’re Here For’, ‘Stowaway’ but this is not to say the others are ignored.
Oh, have I mentioned the CD cover artwork? Brilliant, hats off to Ms. Rogers. The album title is ‘So Much to Tell You’ and what is the artwork on the cover?
Rogers/Wells Project have presented to us a fine album. Hope there will be more to come from them either as singers or songwriters. Like it says in ‘Run’, “But then he knows when he needs his running shoes, He takes the road that has the view and he doesn’t go it twice, ‘Cause life is a great big adventure.”
I would have given them a 5 out of 5 but that would invite snickers from other readers coz I am a newly converted fan. Thus, ‘So Much to Tell You’ gets a 4 out of 5 but with the comment, ‘Recommended’.

I won't be alone in saying that I came to discover this project by way of Christa's song "Held". A very moving song, I felt driven to learn more about its inspiration, which ultimately led me to Rogers/Wells on MySpace. I love the light arrangements, the blending of voices, and the variety of themes throughout the album. Right now "Slip Away" and "Stay Awake" are getting a lot of rotation. I hope to hear more from them soon.

The songs are great. The first time I heard them was on telly on sky TV by a channel called "Wonderful" in the UK. I recorded some of the songs because I just loved the melody. Well done.
