Album Notes

"Romanza", features this duo's signature sound of melodic, romantic standards with an international flair. Melding Latin, Classical, Gypsy, Celtic and Klezmer elements, their style is a musical conversation using hammer dulcimer, harp, guitar, guitar synthesizer and voice.

Originally conceived as a "gig" recording, reflecting the artists' performance repertoire, Romanza grew into a more ambitious project, expanding to include melodies from a variety of musical traditions.

Comments from Romanza performances:

We want to thank you so much for your beautiful music that made our wedding perfect...You were wonderful and should we ever be in need of beautiful music again, you will be the first we call.
~ Dave and Marni B.

Thank you both very much for making Mom and Dad's 50 year wedding anniversary a great success! You were wonderful!.

Thank you so much for the beautiful string music you played at our reception! It was the perfect soft background...

Philip Muehl and "Ariel" Laurel Strong (formerly Laurel StrongMuehl) stopped performing together in 2004, but their CD lives on. Since 2004, Philip has left playing dulcimer to study the Hungarian cimbalom. Ariel continues her vocals, guitar and harp playing as a soloist and runs the website www.dangerousangel.com.

REVIEWS

The perfect gift for all the romantic fools in your life.
author: Anita Christy
Put this CD at the top of your gift list for all those romantic fools who enjoy beautiful tender music. Ariel Strong's renditions of wonderful songs we hardly hear anymore captures your heart with her haunting Celtic voice. The purity of the instrumental music entwines with Ariel's lilting voice and makes you feel as though you aren't in this world anymore. You are weightless. I highly recommend this lovely CD.

Hi! Your mother sent Romanza to me right after you recorded it. I've really enjoyed listening to it, and thinking about you playing with our bassett hound, Beau, in Vista!!!

Well worth it! The music stays with me long after hearing it.

It is Laurel StrongMuehl's singing that gives this CD its subtle, haunting quality. And the duo's fine instrumental voices enhance her rich yet simple melodies. Listening to Romanza leaves me at peace, transported to another time and place, with Laurel's singing lingering in my mind for a long time thereafter.
